Process of Making Sunflower Acid Oil
Sunflower acid oil is a by-product of refining sunflower oil. The process starts with extracting crude sunflower oil by crushing and pressing sunflower seeds. This crude oil is then refined. First, it goes through degumming, where water or acid removes unwanted substances. Next, an alkaline solution like sodium hydroxide is added to neutralize the oil, forming soapstock.
The soapstock is separated from the oil using a centrifuge. To make sunflower acid oil, the soapstock is treated with sulfuric acid, which breaks it down into free fatty acids and glycerol. The mixture is heated and stirred to ensure everything separates properly. Then, the free fatty acids are separated from the water-based part.
These free fatty acids are washed, dried, and filtered to remove any remaining impurities, producing the final Sunflower Acid Oil. This oil is then stored and used in various industries, including animal feed, soap making, and biodiesel production.
