Glioblastoma (GBM), which makes up 16% of primary malignant brain tumors and nervous system neoplasms in adults, is the most prevalent and aggressive primary brain tumor. Its histopathologic characteristics of necrosis and endothelial proliferation led to the World Health Organization's (WHO) classification of brain tumors assigning it the highest grade (grade IV). Although almost majority GBMs only develop in the brain, they can also develop in the spinal cord, cerebellum, and brain stem. The survival rate decreases with age, falling to 2% for people over 65. Five years after receiving a glioblastoma diagnosis, 5% of patients are still alive.
